Bill Giving School Tax Funds To Charter School Dies
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A Republican-backed bill that would have given charter schools a guaranteed share of public school tax dollars has died in a House appropriations subcommittee.
The House panel refused to add the language to a bill that will set new accountability criteria for Florida charter schools. The amendment for tax dollars failed due to a tie vote, but the overall bill passed.
Rep. Janet Adkins said she'd try to get the amendment passed again in another committee. It's unknown how much the funding proposal may cut into school district money.
A similar bill is awaiting action in the Florida Senate.
