Bill Cowher Not Coaching Next Season

MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – The Miami Dolphins descent to the nadir of professional football isn't complete yet.

But if the Dolphins were hoping that former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher would rescue the franchise; they may be out of luck.

Cowher said Sunday that he has no plans to coach next year. He also denied multiple reports that the Dolphins have already contacted him to gauge interest.

"I am here to say to you today, I do not plan on coaching next year," Cowher said on CBS4. "So I can put all the speculation to rest. And if I have to repeat this in December again, I will. I plan on being in the same seat next year."

One thing that could change Cowher's mind would be if the Dolphins end up winning the Andrew Luck sweepstakes.

Multiple coaches might target the Fins if they know a franchise quarterback is coming to the team.

Past Cowher, there's only one other big name NFL coach currently available who definitely wants to coach next season: former Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher.

Fisher still has the fire in his belly to prove he can win in the NFL. If he passes on the Fins, the team will have to look to the coordinator ranks in the NFL or consider dipping into the collegiate head coaches to pull the team up from the abyss.
