Bill Clinton Joining Obama In Florida Monday
ORLANDO (CBSMiami) – President Barack Obama will turn to the Democratic bullpen again on Monday and bring former President Bill Clinton on the campaign trail with him for a three-state battleground trip.
The Democratic duo will headline rallies on Monday in Orlando, Youngstown, Ohio, and Prince William County, Virginia. The joint campaigning is the first time both will be campaigning on stage together during the 2012 election, though they have appeared together at fundraisers and at the Democratic National Convention.
Each of the three states Obama is visiting are crucial to him recapturing the White House. Recent polling has Obama trailing Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney in the Sunshine State, but Obama is leading in Ohio and the race is a dead heat in Virginia.
Historically speaking, no Republican has ever won the White House without carrying the Buckeye State. Both candidates have poured endless resources into Ohio to win it, but President Obama has maintained a slight lead there over the past few months.
Bill Clinton has transitioned from a one-time political foe of Obama to one of his biggest promoters. Clinton has appeared in several ads for the President and held a high-profile event in Ohio last week along with Bruce Springsteen.
Clinton carries a lot of weight in the Democratic Party and among independent voters. Obama advisers hope Clinton's presence on the campaign trail will solidify the Democratic base and have voters drawing a parallel between Clinton's economic policies and those of Obama.
