Big Three Make NBA History
MIAMI (CBS4) - If you watched the Miami Heat game Sunday night against the Houston Rockets, you saw some major statistical anomalies as the Heat beat the Rockets, 125-119.
The most obvious statistic from the game was that Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh all scored at least 30 points and pulled down at least 10 rebounds in the game.
So just how rare is this? The last time that three players, in regulation, had at least 30 points and 10 rebounds in a game was on February 3, 1961. The three players to pull off the feat were Oscar Robertson, Wayne Embry, and Jack Twyman. All three are now in the Basketball Hall of Fame.
"We're trying to accomplish the major goal of winning a championship," Bosh said. "But sometimes you can enjoy the little things between point A and point B."
Before Sunday night's game, the Miami Heat had never before had three players reach 30 points in the same game. Plus, during the two games the Heat have played and won against the Rockets finished with the score, 125-119.
Combined, the Big Three for the Heat scored 94 points and pulled down 33 rebounds. This season, there have been 62 times an entire team hasn't done that.
"It's a true testament to the reason we all came together," Wade said. "That was history. It's a great feat."
It may have been planned though, after the Heat's game against the Philadelphia 76ers, Wade and James talked with reporters about what it would be like if the Big Three scored 30 in the same game. It only took them one game to find out.
"That's what makes great players special," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. "They can be great during the year and still find another gear and another level to go to. I think that's what you're seeing with those three guys."
LeBron summed up the feat best, "I think it's unbelievable."
