LORDSTOWN, Ohio (CBSMiami/AP) – Vice President Joe Biden stepped in for Hillary Clinton on the campaign trail Thursday.
He said Donald Trump doesn't understand the working man, his immigration policy is absurd and he can't be trusted with launch codes.
"Just imagine giving this guy access to the nuclear codes, a guy who says how he'd consider using nuclear weapons," Biden told a crowd of supporters at an Ohio rally.
It's the second time in recent weeks that Biden has campaigned on behalf of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. He and Clinton made a joint appearance in Scranton, Pennsylvania, in mid-August.
When talking about middle class struggles, Biden said Clinton "gets it."
"She never yields," Biden said. "She never breaks."
Trump, on the other hand, was "born with a silver spoon in his mouth and is choking because he has his foot in his mouth," the vice president said.
Trump was also complaining in Ohio.
He stuck to his trademark issue – immigration.
"We are going to build the wall and Mexico is going to pay for the wall," he told supporters.
After a closed-door meeting with Mexican President Pena Nieto on Wednesday, Trump delivered a hardline speech in Phoenix.
"Anyone who has entered the United States illegally is subject to deportation," he said.
But there's already backlash from the speech.
Up to half of Trump's Hispanic Advisory Council have quit or say they will quit after listening to his speech.
"There are several individuals immediately after Donald Trump's speech last night that were, to use their term, disgusted," said Republican Strategist Leslie Sanchez.
"It was the tone. It was the dehumanizing. It was the unrealistic idea of self-deportation," Sanchez said.
There is also controversy about details of Wednesday's meeting.
President Enrique Peña Nieto claims he clearly told Trump that Mexico has no intention of paying for a wall. Trump says payment wasn't discussed.
"When he sat down and he looked President Peña Nieto in the eye, he didn't have the guts to bring that up," said Sen. Tim Kaine, Clinton's vice presidential nominee.
The Clinton campaign is now going after Trump in Arizona as well.
The campaign announced it is spending $6 million to air ads in the state.
