Best Waterside Spots To Have A Bite

When it's not raining, South Florida has some great weather. It just lends itself to dining outdoors by the water. Thankfully, we have tons of restaurants on the water that serve pretty good food. Not sure where to start, check out our top five picks.

Anise Taverna

620 NE 78th St
Miami, FL 33138
(305) 758-2929
www.anisetaverna.com

A hidden gem in Miami if you love eating Greek food by the water. Start with an appetizer; we suggest the Spicy Lamb Fingers which are ground spiced lamb baked inside phylo dough. If lamb isn't your thing, try the calamari which is excellent and served in a very generous portion. When it comes to the main course, why not try the special sea bass with olive and garlic sauce over it or the mouth-watering lamb chops. Anise Taverna also has possibly some of the best humus in South Florida.

Southport Raw Bar

1536 Cordova Rd
Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316
(954) 525-2526
www.southportrawbar.com

Southport is a great kind of divey, outdoor raw bar on the water. When in season, the oysters are great. The old bay shrimp are awesome and the steamed clams are excellent too. Their french fries, however, are not up to par with their seafood. The service can be kinda of iffy, some days really good, on others 'Hey, has anybody seen my waitress'. If you're looking for a casual atmosphere where you can sit outside and have some really fresh seafood and a beer, you should definitely check out Southport.

Rustic Inn Crabhouse

4331 Anglers Ave
Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312
(954) 584-1637
www.rusticinn.com

There's nothing fancy about this spot which has been cooking up South Florida's best garlic crabs since 1955. In can get noisy on the inside so head on out to the outdoor terrace where newspapers cover the table and diners are given bibs so they don't splash themselves when they crack open the incredible crab legs using a wooden mallet. This place is known for their crabs; blue crabs, golden crabs and crab cakes. They also have lobster and shrimp on the menu along with a variety of seafood.

Garcia's Seafood Grille & Fish Market

398 NW North River Dr
Miami, FL 33128
(305) 375-0765
www.garciasseafoodgrill.com

Like The Fish House in Key Largo, Garcia's is part restaurant and part fish market. Start with the lobster bisque, thick and hearty and not too big so it wasn't too filling. The menu consists of some of the freshest catch of the day - usually including crab claws, shrimp, conch and a variety of locally caught fish including Mahi-Mahi and Yellowtail Snapper.

The Buzzard's Roost Restaurant

21 Garden Cove Drive
MM 106.5 Oceanside
Key Largo, FL, 33037
(305) 453-3746
www.buzzardsroostkeylargo.com

Okay, so if you live in Broward it's a bit of a drive. But if you're up for a drive and some of the best seafood in the upper Keys, head to the Buzzard's Roost. They're known for their smoked fish dip (a must order). It's fresh local Mahi Mahi cold smoked and blended with cream cheese and selected spices. Also check out the conch fritters, dee-lish. On a nice afternoon, take advantage of the covered and screened in patio next to a marina.
