Best Places To Dance To 80s Music

Ah, the 80s, it put Miami on the map with Miami Vice. It was the decade known for largess and wealth. Tom Wolfe dubbed it the "splurge generation" -- it was at least until the Savings & Loan crisis came along. Fret not, the soundtrack to those days aren't completely forgotten. Whether you favored The Bangles, Madonna or Rick Springfield during the 1980s, their music remains alive in numerous clubs and bars throughout South Florida. Here are a few places where you can get "Into The Groove", "Walk Like An Egyptian" and sit back and  "Let The Music Play."

Christophers Nightclub

2857 E. Oakland Blvd.
Fort Lauderdale, FL
(954) 561-2163
www.christophersnightclub.com

Every Friday night, Christophers Nightclub dims the house lights, lowers the strobe light and unleashes the sounds of the 1980s with songs from the Eurythmics to Rick James. The club has been at the same location for the past 30 years and also offers spaces for private parties. Other nights offer different types of entertainment including a Thursday night "Latin Night" and Saturday "Dance Night." So be ready to party like it's "1999" at this club every Friday night.

Buck 15

707 Lincoln Lane
(above Miss Yip Restaurant)
Miami Beach, FL 33139
(305) 534-5488
www.buck15.net

Buck 15 has deejays spinning most nights and they will usually spin a few 80s songs mixed in with more Top 40 favorites. This club is a small, quaint space where the music isn't too loud, but once it's packed it's easy to feel like a commuter in a New York subway. The club generally doesn't charge a cover before midnight and smokers are welcome to light up inside.

Studio

1801 Collins Avenue
Miami Beach, Fl 33140
(305) 695-1770
www.louiestudiosouthbeach.com

This place is a karaoke club and a dance studio that features more than 100,000 songs in 20 different languages, including tons of 80s favorites from Michael Jackson's "Beat It" to The B-52s "Love Shack."  If being in the spotlight isn't a big draw, the stage also offers the opportunity to play one of the numerous instruments on the stage including, drums, guitars and keyboard. Or simply dance along on the dance floor. The kicker: If a singer is called and fails to show up, be prepared to hear the whoosh of a flushing toilet. That's their shtick and they are sticking to it.

Vibe Ultra Music Lounge

333 E. Las Olas Blvd.
Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301
(954) 523-1000
www.vibelasolas.com

Every Monday night, this club plays only the best of the 1980s and also offers DJs, rock, and jazz on other nights. Las Olas Boulevard used to be a place to go for dinner after a movie, but the neighborhood has evolved and now features several spots to dance away those calories. Vibe Ultra Music Lounge is behind YOLO and O Lounge Restaurant, which is owned by the same company, so it's a great place for dinner and dancing without having to find another parking spot.

Automatic Slim's

1216 Washington Avenue

(305) 672-2220
www.automatic-slims.com

Break out the leg warmers, be ready to show off your best break dancing moves and add those shoulders pads to the dress. It's all part of the dress code Thursday nights when when ProjectXMiami.com hosts the club's 80's-licious night. Automatic Slim's never charges a cover and women drink free until midnight.
