South Florida is well known for its lively, vibrant atmosphere, which is a big part of the area's extensive history. There's also a dark side where the spirits of yesteryear drape over the more cryptic areas. When you think of haunted, cemeteries are always at the top of the list. This "best of" list highlights excellent graveyard tours in the area. Whether it's to celebrate the centuries-old Pagan holiday of Halloween or it's just to have a night of fright any time of the year, the options on this list promise to deliver a truly haunting experience.

On this two-hour tour, patrons are guided through some of the neighborhood's most haunted spots. The Coconut Grove Cemetery is one of the star attractions of this tour. Graves date back to the early 1900s and this spot serves as the burial site for many Bahamian immigrants that populated the Grove. It's also on record for housing the oldest grave in the city of Miami as well as for being the set of the world famous "Thriller" video by Michael Jackson. Walking through the cemetery gives the eerie, cryptic feeling one anticipates on a tour like this.

As part of the walking tour events hosted by History Miami, this tour represents another side of the area that highlights historical facts with mythical intrigue. Many of the famous figures of Miami like Julia Tuttle are buried at the City of Miami Cemetery. The graves of war veterans from the Civil War and World War I can also be found here. The 125-year-old historical landmark is believed to have a "spiritual" presence, which further adds to its qualification as a haunted place. Since this is a Halloween-inspired event, patrons can wear costumes to add to the experience.
