Free Stuff To Do In South Florida

The economy is the hot topic in the news and in casual conversation and while people's pocketbooks may be empty, there are plenty of events and museums that offer free admission to keep residents and visitors entertained or informed. The cost you have to pay to participate in these events is transportation.

Nearly every night this locally-owned bookstore features some of the brightest, high-profile or entertaining authors of our time. From Humorist Dave Barry to Gary Dell'Abate (aka Baba Booey), the book readings are usually free. This bookstore has hosted a number of high-profile personalities including former President Bill Clinton his former Secretary of State Madeline Albright. The Holocaust Memorial

The memorial became a brick and mortar museum thanks to the efforts of a small group of Holocaust survivors who came together in 1984 and formed a committee whose goal was to house a permanent memorial to honor the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust. A bronze sculpture of a giant, outstretched arm with a tattooed number from Auschwitz rises from the earth – a symbol of the last grasp for life.

The second Saturdays of every month are free for families and from 1 to 4 p.m. parents and their children can take part in listening to live music, sit in with a professional storyteller or attend a guided tour of the exhibitions. Gallery games and dance performances are often part of the activities on the patio.

Yoga In The Park

Yoga classes are held three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at the park and they are taught by a certified yoga teacher. Registration is held on a first come, first serve basis. All participants are asked to bring their own yoga mats, water and towel. Yoga classes are from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. on Saturdays. Other classes are offered including a free self-defense class for women every Monday and Wednesday from 7:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Plantation Historical Museum offers free admission, a butterfly garden and the city's first fire truck. The museum, which is open from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays also features an exhibit of historic photographs.The Plantation Historical Society has maintained the museum since 1974.
