Like many other cities where foodies tweet all the trends - including where the food trucks roam - mobile eats are big news in Miami. But what we formerly called "roach coaches" really aren't anything new. Some of these guys have been around since before South Beach was renovated. Yeah - that long. 'Fess up: You really don't like barbecuing your own burgers, do you? Well, good, because now you don't have to. A Chef's Burger offers certified Angus patties made to order with a variety of grilling options (brushed with a marinade, for example) and toppings (sautéed mushrooms and peppers). There are also four kinds of French fries and chicken wings with seven different sauces. Who needs a dad with an apron and tongs when there are these kinds of options rolling around the neighborhood?

Five days per week, two 24- by 9-foot smokers filled with ribs and a table of fixings are set up at three locations in South Miami. Stop by for a quick meal purchase or book the whole kit and caboodle for your own private wingding. Menu items include whole birds, wings, and ribs, plus sides ranging from Southern-style potato salad to kettle corn.

Run by a pair of brothers, the Sub is fairly declarative: it serves sandwiches named for iconic tunes. To wit: the Killer Queen (by Queen) is a chicken sandwich topped with provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, green peppers, hot peppers, olives, mayo and pesto. No, we couldn't tell you the rationale, but we're sure there is one. Somewhere. Open from noon to 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

A lot of folks just call this one "the shrimp truck." That's because the fried shrimp are the big seller here. Or you can buy the fried king crab legs, though the extra crunchy texture (they're fried with the shell on) is a turn off for some. Get 'em after 6 p.m., and eat 'em while they're hot. Parked in the Pick-It grocery lot.

You can't resist the name of this one anymore than you can bypass the Venezuelan-style burgers and dogs. Loaded with salad, potato sticks, corn, white sauce and mustard, the dogs and burgers look a mite strange, but taste a whole lot better than that. Available after 4 p.m.
