BCS Is Big Business In Broward
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) - Broward tourism officials say the real winner of the BCS championship wasn't the Alabama Crimson Tide. Instead, it was the county itself.
More than 30,000 BCS fans rented hotel rooms in Broward County. Local businesses, including restaurants, hotels and rental car agencies cleaned up big, to the tune of approximately 25 million dollars.
For every 85 tourists, the revenue generated creates a new job in the county, said Nicki Grossman, President of Broward Tourism.
Now that the BCS is over, Broward Tourism officials are collaborating with officials in Miami-Dade County to attract a Super Bowl.
