Basketball Enthusiasts Train Like The Pros At Wade's Camp
HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) – Basketball enthusiasts looking to get pointers from Dwyane Wade, and be coached by champion college coaches from around the country, are shooting hoops at the Heat star's Fantasy Basketball Camp.
Dwayne Wade's Fantasy Basketball Camp is an elite basketball camp hosted by Wade. The camp, which goes on from July 31-August 3, is in its fourth year.
Doug Crowley told CBS4's Nataliza Zea he's been a basketball fanatic for life.
"I've been blessed that I'm still able to play at 70-years-old," said Crowley.
Crowley is so much of a fan of Wade's camp that attending the camp was on his bucket list. He flew from New Jersey to Hollywood to take part.
Crowley and the 50 other men--over the age of 35--get to spend nearly a week with Wade, be drafted to a fantasy team and coached by some of the best college coaches in the country.
The camp brings in many different people, even Wade's friend Jamie Foxx.
"I enjoy it, you live an isolated life sometimes in the spotlight, so this is a weekend where I don't have to isolate myself from other guys," Foxx told Zea.
Foxx wasn't shy about how much he loves Wade's name.
"Dwyaaaaaaaane Wade! I just love how that go. If was him, I'd have that announced everywhere I go," Foxx said.
Crowley said he wasn't nervous to go up against famous people like Foxx, even saying he was thinking of giving him some pointers.
Wade commended Crowley for his skills on the court.
"He's a team player. He's one of those guys who's a good team player," said Wade.
"That means I'm old and I pass the ball," Crowley said, laughing.
Getting tips from NBA Players and instructed by celebrity coaches doesn't come cheap—each camp-goer paid $10,500 to take part in the camp.
Zea asked Crowley if the price is worth it. He responded, "Yes, for me. I'm not sure it would be worth it for everybody but again I'm a basketball junkie."
