Bank Robbery Suspect Caught Following Police Pursuit, Rollover Wreck On I-595

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - An accused bank robber on the run was caught after rolling his car on I-595 Friday afternoon in Fort Lauderdale.
According to the FBI, 26-year-old Oscar Rivas of Miami robbed the Wells Fargo Bank on the 1000 block of Northwest 14th Street, on the busy University of Miami, Jackson Medical Campus Friday morning.
Bank images show a man wearing glasses and a ball cap pointing a gun and carrying a backpack. The FBI says Rivas demanded money and walked out of the bank, but his getaway car was spotted on I-95 and that led to a chase.
According to the FBI, the Miami Dade Police department and Broward Sheriff's office were part of the pursuit.
The FBI says there were no injuries and no shots fired.
The bank remained closed Friday afternoon. Some customers said they weren't surprised it was held up
"It's always busy, always a line," said Jim Fried.
Lisa Cunningham said she rushed to the bank to take care of some bills and was disappointed to find it closed. "I can't judge him, but it's hurting for me. It hurt other people," she said
Rivas was placed in federal custody.
Investigating agencies include the City of Miami Police Department, Miami Dade Police Department, Broward Sheriff's Office, the Florida Highway Patrol, the South Florida Violent Crime Fugitive Task Force and the FBI.
