Bank Atlantic Center Becomes BB&T Center
SUNRISE (CBSMiami) – The Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise is no more. After the bank was acquired by BB&T, the name on the arena will be changing as well to the BB&T Center.
The Florida Panthers home arena, owned by Sunshine Sports & Entertainment, will be officially rechristened by October 13 when new signs will be fully installed. The arena also has a new website, thebbtcenter.com.
SSE and BB&T entered into the partnership on a 10-year deal.
"We are absolutely thrilled that BB&T has chosen to become the long-term naming rights partner for the Broward County-owned BB&T Center," said SSE president & COO Michael R. Yormark in a statement. "This 10-year partnership is indicative of both the incredible recent success and the near limitless future of SSE, the Florida Panthers and the BB&T Center. BB&T is one of America's most recognizable banks."
The arena is ranked number 13 overall by Pollstar and is home to aforementioned Panthers. The defending Southeast Division Champion Panthers are supposed to open their season on October 13 when they play the Tampa Bay Lightning.
However, a possible lockout by the NHL owners could delay the start of the Panthers' defense of their division crown.
