Bama & Irish Arrive In Miami
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Less than 24 hours after the Orange Bowl ended, the preparations are already underway for the Bowl Championship Series national championship game at Sun Life Stadium.
The championship game will match up the University of Alabama Crimson Tide versus the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The two teams own more than 20 national championships between them, depending on which school you listen to, and both are scheduled to arrive in Miami Wednesday.
The Fighting Irish arrived Wednesday around 3:30 at Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Jet Center. The Irish arrive in South Florida returning to the national championship scene for the first time since the late 1980's.
Alabama will be seeking its third championship in four years when it takes the field against the Irish. The Crimson Tide arrived at Miami International Airport Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
The game will mark a return to the sidelines of Sun Life Stadium for Alabama head coach Nick Saban. The former Miami Dolphins coach controversially left the Fins to take the Alabama job and has since established the Tide as the premier college football program in the nation.
Both teams will begin practicing for the national championship game immediately. The Tide are currently 10 point favorites to knock off the Irish and capture the BCS title.
