Funeral Services Held For Bal Harbour Police Chief

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Dozens of law enforcement officers from a number of departments across South Florida, gathered alongside friends and family to say their final farewells at the funeral of Bal Harbour police chief Miguel De La Rosa.
De La Rosa, 49, passed away Saturday after a brief battle with cancer, just four months after he was appointed as the village police chief.
Outside the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hialeah Wednesday morning, there was a huge show of support and solidarity for De La Rosa's family.
Also paying their respects were firefighters from several departments, many of whom work with his twin brother, Marcos De La Rosa, who is the Chief of the Coral Gables Fire Department.
"I remember him as a friend as someone I greatly greatly respected, someone who stepped into a very difficult position as chief in the shoes of his mentor Mark Overton, who we lost last year with grace and professionalism and with love, said Bal Harbour Mayor Gabriel Groisman.
Overton passed away following a heart attack and De La Rosa took over as chief. De La Rosa joined the Bal Harbour Police Department in 2014 in the overall command of all departmental operations.
De La Rosa is being buried at Vista Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 14200 NW 57th Ave.
De La Rosa is survived by his wife and two daughters.
