MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) – It was a wild day at a Miami Gardens school Friday when authorities took down a student in a field following reports of a gun on campus.
Sources told CBS4 that it started with an initial report of a trespasser on campus at Carol City Senior High School.
"I was just in automotive class and next thing you know you see two helicopters flying around and you just see cops," said student Mathew Ramirez.
Then, sources said, there was a report of a gun and that the school spotted some boys in the bushes exchanging back packs.
When officers approached the students they allegedly took off running.
CBS4 cameras were rolling as one of them was taken down.
School officials said there was no gun.
Sources said it was two kids ditching class, smoking pot.
That source also reports police found personal information about a police officer and Colombian diplomat in the back pack – making it appear it would be used for identity theft. Police detained him for questioning.
With little official information released in this case, students said stories were running wild around school.
"It was just crazy all around school. There were rumors being passed around, different kinds of rumors. It's going all around school," said Breana Hall.
Throughout all of this, Carol City Senior High and two other schools – Carol City Elementary and Middle School – were on Code Red Lockdown.
"It was scary 'cause I was like, 'Oh my god we're on lockdown,'" Hall said.
