Baby Rushed To Hospital After Falling Into Pool

CORAL SPRINGS (CBS4) – Lots of sun on Father's Day made it great day to hang out at the pool or beach.

But an afternoon in the water turned dangerous for one youngster in Coral Springs.

Police and paramedics were called to the Oakwood Condos on SW 1st Court  and NW 96th Lane around 3 p.m. after getting a call that a baby had fallen into a pool. The one year old was reportedly in the pool on a yellow tube float when it tipped over.

Police spokeswoman Carla Kmiotek said there was a birthday party going on at the house for the boy's 6-year old sister. It's unclear how long the boy was in the water but the family told police it was several minutes before they noticed the child in the water.

When a family friend pulled him out the boy was unresponsive. The boy's grandfather gave him CPR until paramedics arrived.

"When EMS got on the scene they were able to get a faint pulse," said Kmiotek. "He was transported to Coral Springs Medical Center, at this point he was breathing. He was transported to Broward General for observation."

The boy has been listed as stable.

Investigators will now try to determine if this was an accident or a case of negligence.
