Autonation Sales Up 11 Percent In April Compared To 2010
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) - The largest auto dealership in the U.S., Ft. Lauderdale based AutoNation Inc., reports sales of new cars, trucks and SUVs in April was up 11 percent in April compared to a year ago.
But while sales were up, the percentage increase was smaller than the overall U.S. sales for the month. Overall, U.S. sales rose 18 percent in April to 1.16 million versus a year ago. It was the third straight month that sales hit an annual rate of 13 million or more and a big improvement from last April.
AutoNation said it sold 18,266 new vehicles in April and its premium luxury sales were up 19 percent in April from last year, domestic sales increased 18 percent and import sales rose 4 percent.
Year to date, the company said its new vehicle sales were up 20 percent from the year-ago period.
AutoNation also said its board has authorized it to buy back up to an additional $250 million in shares, increasing its total amount authorized under its share buyback program to $395.9 million.
AutoNation operates more than 250 dealerships in 15 states.
