Authorities: 2 Mexican Men Plead Guilty To Sex Trafficking
MIAMI (CBS4) -- U.S. authorities said two Mexican men have pleaded guilty to charges of conspiring to commit commercial sex trafficking of Mexican women.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Miami, from 1999 through December, the men lured women from Mexico to the U.S. with promises of marriage and legal employment. Instead, authorities said, the men forced the women to work as prostitutes in a prostitution ring that spanned the East Coast, including Miami.
The men will be sentenced in October. Each faces up to life in prison, though in the plea agreements federal prosecutors said they may recommend that the judge reduce their sentences.
Earlier this year, Mexican authorities prosecuted a third man in the conspiracy and sentenced him to more than 18 years in prison.
