Aunt That Saved Baby's Life Honored For Her Efforts
HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) – The brave aunt who helped to save her 5-month-old nephew when he stopped breathing while traveling along the Dolphin Expressway received an award Saturday.
Pamela Rauseo, stopped her car in traffic and got out flagging down drivers for help when Sebastian de la Cruz struggled to breathe.
Miami Herald photographer Al Diaz snapped pictures as a Sweetwater Police Officer and a woman who left her own baby in her car to offer assistance. It was a moment in which several strangers stopped everything to help little Sebastian.
It was Rauseo who ended up administering CPR.
Memorial Healthcare, The American Red Cross and 101.5 LITE FM radio presented the award to Rauseo for her valiant efforts.
The incident has brought awareness to CPR and the need for training.
Rauseo was at the event Memorial Regional Hospital South in Hollywood to receive the award and help kick off free CPR "hands only" training for 250 people.
Sebastian's parents have said he has recovered and is doing well.
