August Job Growth Improving
Amanda Barba's been looking for a full time administrative job for about a year.
the Westchester mom of 2 finally found a part-time offer.
She says "It's too soon to tell but I have an inkling it's getting better. From my own personal family point of view, my husband's in the service industry and he's keeping busier and doing well. For me personally, I've been getting offers and found part time position so I think it's getting better.
Private employers here and across the country are starting to hang out their help wanted signs as we approach the fall.
The service industries added 185-thousand positions in August, followed by 19-thousand new jobs in light and heavy manufacturing with construction nationwide adding 16-thousand positions.
South Floridas' job market is still very tight, though new construction is slowly starting up again.
Some local job specialists say South Florida'' summer hiring slump's over, but full time jobs offering full-benefits remain scarce.
Still, Odalys Girard of Doral's RiteHire Staffing says "I think it's on the upswing and I think it's going to get better and better as we get closer to the fall and into the winter".
The critical August national unemployment numbers will be released Friday.
Some labor analysts expect they'll continue to show small job gains, but possibly not enough to significantly drop the national unemployment rate.
Closer to home, we could be just a few weeks away from retailors hanging out help-wanted signs for the fall holiday season... as well as the fall tourism season.
And that could help make 4th Quarter Hiring this year even better than last year.
