Auction To Be Held To Help N. Miami Beach Family
NORTH MIAMI BEACH (CBS4) -- For years, Armando Perera's auction house in Hialeah has made money for South Floridians looking to get rid of household items they don't need anymore.
But this Saturday morning, he will hold what may just be the most important auction of his life.
That auction will raise money for Ashley, 14, Quentin, 13, and Xavier Jack, 11, who are now recovering in the Intensive Care Unit. Their mother's boyfriend, Mark Glinton shot them, murdered their mother Eveline Jack, who was pregnant...and then killed himself.
Only Kristian Jack, 2, was unharmed. That's because Quentin shielded him with his body after being shot himself. Quentin was left paralyzed.
"(Glinton's) an animal you know, there's no forgiveness for this," Perera told CBS4's Natalia Zea.
Perera has never met Eveline Jack's children, but he considers her a friend. She worked at the Publix deli where he stops every day after work.
"She knows my wife, she knows my daughter and I was so happy she was having a baby, and it really hurts to see what happened," said Perera.
He will donate the 35% commission he makes from auctioning off the random items that belong to private customers.
And if you donate an item specifically for the Jack family auction, 100% of the cash will go toward the children's newly created trust fund.
North Miami Beach Police set up that fund to pay for the kids' medical bills, education and in the short-term, Christmas presents.
"Somebody needs to care about their kids, and these kids though the hardest part of their life now is going to be learning to live life without their mom, we're just trying to make things a little bit better for them," Det. Cora Mann told Zea.
From scooters to stained glass Perera is looking for anything of value you have lying around your house, to help make money for these kids who've been through so much.
