Attorney Sentenced In Rothstein Fraud Case
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami/AP) — A lawyer who help the wife of Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein hide a million dollars in jewelry from investigators will spend three years in federal prison.
U.S. District Judge Robin Rosenbaum imposed the sentence Monday on lawyer Scott Saidel.
Court documents show that Saidel admitted helping Kim Rothstein hide the jewelry from authorities and later sell some of it.
Last January, he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to launder money, obstruct justice and tamper with a witness.
Saidel reports to prison November 21st.
Kim Rothstein and a friend have also pleaded guilty in the case and will be sentenced later. They are expected to testify against two other men accused in the jewelry transaction.
Scott Rothstein is serving a 50-year prison sentence for operating a $1.2 billion Ponzi scheme.
