Scotland Yard: 5 Dead, At Least 40 Hurt In London Attack

LONDON (CBSMiami) -- Five people are dead including a police officer and an attacker in a terror attack in London near Parliament.
Terror struck the heart of London when a vehicle rammed into a crowd of pedestrians on Westminster Bridge. Forty people were injured.
Police said the vehicle then crashed into the gates of Parliament. People were seen running for their lives. Police say the suspect got out and stabbed a police officer before he was shot by police.
Both the officer and assailant were killed.
Investigators said a full-scale terror investigation is underway.
Scotland Yard believes there is only one attacker but they are taking precautions.

The House of Commons, which was in session at the time, was immediately suspended and lawmakers were asked to stay inside.
Riders on the London Eye - a large Ferris wheel overlooking the capitol – also had to stay put.
Police said extra officers have been deployed around London.
One woman was pulled from the Thames River near the bridge and is being treated for her injuries.
The Mayor of London called on Londoners to not give in to fear, tweeting out a video.
President Donald Trump was briefed on the situation in the U.K. and spoke to Prime Minister Theresa May, according to White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer.
"The victims in this are in our thoughts and our prayers," said Spicer during the daily White House briefing.
The motive for the attack is unknown at this time. London Police say they are treating the attack as a terrorist incident until they know otherwise.
