AT&T Upgrades 45 South Florida Cell Sites
SOUTH FLORIDA (CBSMiami) — AT&T customers, get ready for faster web browsing and more reliable cell phone service.
The South Florida Business Journal reports AT&T has announced upgrades to 45 cell sites throughout South Florida to expand mobile Internet coverage and capacity throughout the tri-county area.
The company also activated a new Fourth Generation Long-Term Evolution (4G LTE) cell site north of Sample Road and west of Military Trail in Pompano Beach.
"As part of the South Florida community, we're always looking for new opportunities to provide an enhanced customer experience and our investment in the local wireless network is just one way we're accomplishing that," said AT&T Florida President Marshall Criser III in a statement.
The areas benefitting from the additional South Florida cell site capacity are:
- In Miami-Dade County: Miami, Miami Gardens, Coral Gables, North Miami Beach, Miami Beach, Cutler Bay, Goulds, Quail Heights, Cypress National Preserve, Olympia Heights, North Bay Village, Bal Harbour, Bay Harbour Islands, Indian Creek Village, Surfside, Hialeah, Hialeah Gardens and Miami Lakes.
- In Broward County: Hollywood, Miramar, Pembroke Pines, Fort Lauderdale, Davie, Sunrise, Plantation, Oakland Park, Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, Sea Ranch Lakes, Southwest Ranches and Weston.
- In Palm Beach County: Boca Raton, Highland Beach, Palm Beach and Singer Island.
AT&T launched its 4G LTE network in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach in July.
In August, AT&T expanded 4G LTE service in Palm Beach County and announced more than $400 million spent on its Florida wireless and wired networks during the first six months of 2012.
