AT&T Repairs End S. Florida Cell Phone Glitch
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - For the second time this year, users of AT&T's wireless service in South Florida found their service interrupted Friday, in what a company spokesperson said was an outage affecting people from Broward County to Key West. Service was mostly restored about 3 p.m.
People started reporting problems shortly after 11 a.m. Friday, and shortly before noon, AT&T spokesperson Kelly Starling confirmed that an unspecified number of customers were having trouble making calls.
"Some AT&T wireless customers from mid-Broward County south to Key West may not be able to make mobile-to-mobile calls or receive calls to their mobile from a landline due to an equipment issue," she said in an email. "
"Network technicians are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible."
Starling did not give specifics about the service interruption, or say how many customers were affected, but said the faulty equipment was repaired ans service restored to most people about 3 p.m.
AT&T expected all customers to have service returned to normal after some 'tweaks' were made to the system.
June 28th, the nation's second largest wireless provider had a three-hour interruption in South Florida after an equipment problem cut off 3G wireless service for most of the company's South Florida customers.
Customers found that they could still make calls using the older 2G service still operated by AT&T, but in many cases their phones did not know to make the switch. AT&T advises that in order to access the 2G service, users may have to turn off their phone and turn it back on again.
