When it comes to choosing the suit that better suits (pun intended) your body and style, there are indeed some rules that will guide you.

Tip 1

The suit has to fit and be tailored to your body. Don't size up to cover imperfections because you can end up looking frumpy. Instead choose the best fitting suit that is somewhat snug without being too tight. Don't forget it has to be modern looking.

Tip 2

The shoulders can't be too fit or too loose. The length of the jacket has to be long enough in the arms to where you can hold it with the palm of your hand while your hand is extended. The length of the pants has to cover half of your shoe heel. When you button up the jacket, there has to be at least one inch of free space between the body and the piece (just because some day you may want to wear a sweater or a scarf).

Tip 3

If you don't have the suit tailor made, after you buy it, go to your personal tailor and have it edited for your body. Remember the brand can't make it perfect for everyone. Take out fabric from the back at the waist area and make it more snug. The sleeves are very important. You don't want them too loose or too long. You can also adjust the hem and also make the legs skinnier.

Tip 4

It is better to choose a classic color such as black, navy, beige or gray. Go with extra-merino wool for all seasons, cashmere for the winter and cotton or linen for the summer. Try to avoid prints on the suit, lines, squares and obscure color combinations; leave the experiments to the catwalk. If you feel adventurous and are ready to experiment, you can mix pieces from the classics and do a really original combination.

Tip 5

If you don't have multiple suits, buy one with a classic cut and have it tailored. This way, you can use it many times and for various occasions. If you accessorize it in the right way, it can look different. If you feel thrifty and choose to buy from a sale or a discount store, always opt for formal suits and make them modern with accessories and by the way you style them.
