Art Basel Miami Beach Now Open To The Public
MIAMI BEACH (CBS4) - South Florida is at the center of the art world this week as Art Basel, the largest international art show in this country, opens to the public on Thursday.
The international art show in Miami Beach is the American sister event of Art Basel in Switzerland.
Art Basel Miami Beach organizers have chosen more than 250 galleries to show during the fair. But satellite fairs have sprung up around Miami as the fair progressed through the years.
The exhibiting galleries at the Miami Beach Convention Center are among the world's most respected art dealers, offering exceptional pieces by both renowned artists and cutting-edge newcomers. They're hoping to sell works ranging from Pablo Picasso and Fernando Botero to Argentina's Mondongo group to New York-based Kehinde Wiley.
Forty thousand people came through the doors last year and this year the largest collection of contemporary art from 2,000 artists of the 20th and 21st centuries are featured.
Art Basel Miami Beach wraps up on Sunday.
