MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) - An arrest has been made in a violent sexual assault on Miami Beach.
On Sunday, October 2nd, a woman was walking on the beach to her part-time job when a man, who she walked past, got up, grabbed her and began punching her.
That man was later identified as 32-year old Darrell McWilliams, according to Miami Beach police.
The woman tried to run away but McWilliams, who was reportedly armed with a box cutter, chased after her, grabbed her from behind, put her in a choke hold and began slashing in the face, according to his arrest report.
The woman said her attacker repeatedly threatened to kill her. He then pushed her to the ground and reportedly sexually assaulted her. At one point he dropped the box cutter and the woman took advantage, punching and kicking him until he let her go.
She then ran to a business for help as McWilliams ran away, according to police.
The woman provided police with a description of her assailant. Early Wednesday morning officers stopped McWilliams and realized he matched it.
During questioning McWilliams reportedly admitted that he initially intended to rob the woman but when she resisted he cut her with the box cutter. He also allegedly admitted to sexually assaulting her.
Police say McWilliams was recently released from jail after serving many years for a prior sexual assault and 2nd degree murder.
