MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A man wanted in connection to a violent home invasion in Key Biscayne earlier this month appeared before a judge Wednesday.

A judge ordered 23-year-old Vincent Johnson Jr.to be held on no bond. His public defender said his client did not want to appear on camera but the judge overruled the request, requiring Johnson to face her on a bond court camera as she ordered him held without bond.

The judge also ordered him to stay away from the victim in the case.

Meantime, Johnson Jr. is facing a number of charges including armed robbery, felony battery with a firearm, armed kidnapping, and attempted manslaughter.

Miami-Dade police said a tip to Crime Stoppers led them to Johnson who turned himself in late Tuesday night.

"With everybody working together, really working with the community, getting the information out to the street that law enforcement was really looking for this subject, his family really worked with him to turn around and turn himself in," said South Miami police Chief Rene Landa.

The early morning attack on December 2nd set off a manhunt among high-end homes and even forced schools to go on lockdown.

Police said Johnson broke into a multi-story home at 110 Woodcrest Lane to burglarize the house. A housekeeper caught him by surprise.

Johnson, police say, attacked her and tied her up before ransacking the home.

The housekeeper eventually broke free and ran to a neighbor's house for help. Within minutes, officers swarmed the area in search of the man.

Police Johnson is a criminal of the most dangerous sort with unlimited violent potential.

"When you talk about a home invasion robbery, that's a very, very violent crime," said Landa. "That's somebody committing a burglary in a home while someone is still at home and then putting that person at gunpoint to steal their property."

Investigators say Johnson was caught on the home's security cameras which tipped the case in their favor. Still, word of the burglary left some neighbors unsettled.

"It was something we never thought would happen here, so it was kind of a shock," said resident Katalina Bernal.

The owner of the house is Aabad Melwani, a family man who is President of the Rickenbacker Marina.
