Arrest Made In Deadly Deerfield Beach Shooting
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – One man has been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting in a Deerfield Beach neighborhood.
Roderick Ferguson, 25, had been charged with one count of first degree murder and one count of probation violation.
The shooting occurred Wednesday afternoon in the 1100 block of SW 11th Way.
Broward Sheriff's investigators say Glenn Thervil got angry when his acquaintances, who were hanging out in a community park, wouldn't give him anymore cigarettes. At one point he reportedly pulled a gun and threatened Ferguson. After the confrontation, Thervil left the park in the company of two acquaintances who admonished him for pointing the gun at Ferguson and told Thervil to stay home.
But Thervil returned later that day and had a second confrontation with Ferguson. It was during this fight that Ferguson reportedly shot Thervil.
Deputies found Thervil's body with the .32-caliber handgun still in his waistband and a shotgun wound in his chest.
The Broward Sheriff's Office SWAT team was sent in to assist deputies after the department received word that a man had barricaded himself inside a home nearby after the shooting.
BSO deputies set up a perimeter in the area as they searched for the shooter using the K-9 team and a helicopter.
The sheriff's office said one of the men who had been in the park with Ferguson did hide in a nearby house but came out at the urging of the SWAT team.
