Arrest Made In Coconut Grove Home Invasion
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – An arrest has been made in a Coconut Grove home invasion robbery in which a man was beaten and a woman was sexually assaulted.
Miami police have charged 19-year old Jerod Mays with one count each of armed home invasion robbery, armed false imprisonment and armed robbery.
During questioning, Mays reportedly admitted to taking part in the November 13th robbery. He told investigators that he and three of his friends were walking by the house at Brooker Street and Oak Avenue just before 2 a.m. when they noticed two people sitting outside on the porch, according to his arrest report.
Mays reportedly said that's when they decided to rob those inside. He said they armed themselves with guns and then put their shirts up over their faces, according to the arrest report.
They then forced two roommates, a woman and a man in the 20s who were sitting on the porch, into the home at gunpoint. Inside were the woman's sister and another male roommate.
The four armed men took a laptop computer, the roommates' cell phones and about one hundred dollars in cash. During the robbery, one of the male roommates was pistol whipped in the head gun. One of the women, a school teacher, was sexually assaulted. She was checked out at the hospital and has since returned home.
