Arrest Made In Brutal Stabbing Death Of SW Miami-Dade Woman
SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) - Miami-Dade Police say a man has confessed to brutally murdering a woman in her Southwest Miami-Dade home early Sunday morning.
Reinerio Alonso Rivero, 35, was arrested and charged with first degree murder and armed occupied burglary.
Police say Rivero broke into the home Elizabeth Roxana Palomino, 50, shared with her husband Percy on 138th block of Southwest 156th Street to steal money to go to a casino.
Rivero told police he was startled, because Palomino returned early from the Salsamor Dance Studio, a business she co-owned with her husband.
Rivero confessed to hiding in the closet, but was eventually found by Palomino.
Police say Palomino then locked herself in a bedroom to protect herself. Rivero, armed with a knife, allegedly kicked down the bedroom door and stabbed Palomino several times in the chest before she fell down face first. Police say Rivero then confessed to them that he stabbed Palomino several times on the back as she attempted to get up.
It was Elizabeth's husband Percy who discovered the body when he returned to the home at around 1 a.m.
"They've been married 27 years and very close together," said Percy's brother Eduardo Palomino. "It's been devastating for the kids and him."
"This family is grieving the loss over somebody's habit," said Miami-Dade Police Det. Javier Baez.
