Arraignment Tuesday For Wife Of George Zimmerman
SANFORD (CBSMiami/AP) — An arraignment is scheduled Tuesday for the wife of former neighborhood watch leader George Zimmerman.
Shellie Zimmerman, 25, who had already entered a plea of not guilty to a perjury charge, is not expected in court after waiving her requirement to attend.
Prosecutors allege Shellie Zimmerman misled a judge about how much money she and her husband had at his April bond hearing.
She testified that they had meager resources even though they had raised at least $135,000 in donations from a Web site set up for Zimmerman's defense.
She was arrested June 12 and released on bond the same day.
The perjury charge is a third-degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
George Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in the Feb. 26th death of unarmed Miami teen Trayvon Martin. The shooting sparked nationwide protests after Zimmerman was not arrested for weeks after the shooting.
Zimmerman claims Martin attacked him and is claiming self-defense under Florida's "stand your ground" law.
Zimmerman is free on $1 million bail.
