Apple Recalls Beats Pill Speakers Due To Fire Hazard

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Apple is recalling Beats Pill XL portable wireless speakers after receiving reports of the speakers overheating—including a burn to a user's finger and damage to a desk.
The recall is for about 222,000 speakers in the U.S. and about 11,000 in Canada, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Apple has received eight reports of the speakers overheating. One person burned their finger, another person's desk was damaged when the Beats Pill XL overheated.
Consumers are asked to stop using the recalled product and contact Apple for a $325 Apple Store credit or electronic payment. The speakers retail for about $300. Apple will provide a postage paid box for consumers to send the speakers to Apple.
The speakers were sold at Apple stores and major retail stores, also online at Apple.com and Beatsbydre.com from January 2014 through June 2015.
