Apple Apologizes For Faulty Map App
CUPERTINO, Cali. (CBSMiami) – Apple, Inc has made billions of dollars off groundbreaking new products, but one of Apple's newest products has prompted an apology from the company's chief executive officer, Tim Cook.
In an unusual move, Cook posted an open letter to Apple customers apologizing for the massive problems Apple has experienced with its new Apple Maps program.
"With the launch of our new Maps last week, we fell short on this commitment" to make world-class products, Cook wrote in the letter. "We are extremely sorry for the frustration this has caused our customers and we are doing everything we can to make Maps better."
Since the release of Apple's iPhone 5 the company's stock has taken a major hit. When iPhone 5 was released, the stock was running around $700. Ever since, the stock has been going down and is trading below $680 a share Friday in the wake of Cook's statement.
Nevertheless, Cook promises to improve the maps program and even went so far as to recommend competitors' products to his customers.
"While we're improving maps, you can try alternatives by downloading map apps from the App Store like Bing, MapQuest and Waze, or use Google or Nokia maps by going to their websites and creating an icon on your home screen to their web app," Cook wrote.
