PEMBROKE PINES (CBSMiami) - Family, friends and co-workers of a Miami-Dade corrections officers who was found murdered in his Pembroke Pines apartment want answers.
When Cpl. Daveon Hall didn't show up for his afternoon shift last Friday, and wasn't answering his phone, his mother, Barbara Drummond, decided to go check on him.
When Drummond arrived her son's apartment in the gated Arium Resort community on SW 122nd Avenue, she said his front door was unlocked, according to the Sun-Sentinel. When she went inside, she found his body on the living room floor.
Born in Jamaica, Hall moved to the U.S. with his family when he was six years old, according to the Sun-Sentinel.
He attended American High School in Hialeah and would later attend Mesabi Range Community & Technical College in Minnesota where he played football.
Drummond told the Sun-Sentinel that her son was certified as a police officer and had been with Miami-Dade's corrections department since 2000. She added that one day he had hoped to become a firefighter.
While police have classified Hall's death a homicide, they have not provided any details. Drummond said her son had been shot.
This is the third homicide in the gated community in last six months.

The following month, Milot Desir, 23, was shot and killed by a resident after he allegedly took part in an attempted home invasion robbery with three others. Desir, of Miramar, was shot through a window before he could enter the apartment, according to police.
