Another Soggy Day, A Cool Change On The Way
MIAMI (CBS4) – Tuesday got off to a soggy, gloomy start across South Florida with scattered showers and heavy downpours in spots.
Drivers were urged to leave extra time for their morning commute as the rain slicked roads created potentially dangerous conditions.
The rain over the last day or so the rain has been relentless, according to CBS4 meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez. On Monday, Key West broke a record for rainfall with 6.91 inches; the old record of 4.08 inches was set in 1910. Since Friday, Key West has seen more than 10 inches of rain, Marathon has gotten more than five inches and Miami has seen over three inches.
Gonzalez said we will be adding to those rainfall totals Tuesday through Wednesday due to a very moist and unstable atmosphere created by low pressure in the Central Gulf of Mexico combined with a warm front lifting to the North. All the moisture associated with the low pressure system in the Gulf will lead to a good chance of showers and possible storms over the next 24 to 36 hours.
Some of the storms could produce strong gusty winds, dangerous lightning, heavy downpours and the potential of more flooding. There is even a slight chance of severe weather as the front moves through.
The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook Warning because a few storm cells may be capable of producing funnel clouds. A tornado warning was issued early Tuesday morning for eastern Central Palm Beach County. Winds will be increasing across the region and it will be blustery at times with winds gusting up to 30 mph.
Wednesday night a cold front will slide down to our south and bring a drastic change in our weather. We will swap out the umbrellas for light sweaters as drier, cooler air moves in behind the front. Wednesday night lows will drop down to the low to mid 60s and highs will only climb to the comfortable upper 70s.
Friday morning could be even cooler with temps possibly dipping down to the upper 50s in some spots and highs will be right around 80 degrees. This weekend will enjoy plenty of sunshine with cool lows in the 60s and highs in the low 80s.
