Another Day Of Record Breaking Cold
MIAMI (CBS4) - A record-breaking cold spell continued across South Florida with even colder temperatures in some locations than Tuesday due to clear skies and lighter winds which led to radiational cooling.
CBS4 meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez said the lack of cloud coverage allowed any warmth from Tuesday's high temps escape thus temperatures dropped even further.
Wednesday morning Miami Beach broke a record with reading of 36 degrees; the old record low was 42 degrees set back in 1942.
On Tuesday Key West tied the record low and broke the record on Wednesday with a temperature reading of 46 degrees; the old record of 52 degrees was set back in 1885.
On the mainland, the western suburbs and some Inland locations hovered near the freezing mark, while the coastal areas woke up to the mid to upper 30s. Since the winds have relaxed a bit, the wind chills were not as low, but the light breeze made it feel like the upper 20s inland, low 30s near the coast.
Wednesday afternoon there will be plenty of sunshine with highs in the mid to upper 50s, a few neighborhoods may climb to the 60 degree mark. Wednesday night will be chilly again with lows in the 40s near the coast and mid 30s inland. Thursday afternoon high pressure will slide to our East allowing temperatures to climb back in the low 70s. The mercury will continue to rise the rest of the week with lows in the upper 50s by Friday morning and highs warming up to the upper 70s this weekend.
There's a better chance of showers on Saturday ahead of a cold front that will help dip our temperatures by a few degrees by Sunday; this is not an arctic front. Temperatures will drop into the upper 50s by Sunday morning and highs will be pleasant in the low to mid 70s through Monday.
