Another Child Abuse Charge For Former Davie School Worker
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – The charges are mounting against a Davie special needs teacher. With his attorney, David Baier, 50, stood before a judge this morning, waiting for bond to be set.
"Your client is charged with cruelty toward a child, inflicting physical harm," said Broward Bond Court Judge John Hurley.
Baier has been accused of this before. This latest allegation stems from a visit to the AEF Preparatory School summer camp last year.
"The mother of an autistic 9-year-old contacted Davie Police Department regarding physical abuse of her son by his teacher," Judge Hurley read from the police report. "it says that he advised that Baier pushed his head to the floor."
No one wanted to talk at his home, or at the school.
This all stems from an arrest back in August, when he was accused of something similar. That child's mother explained how she noticed something was wrong.
"I said 'what's wrong,?' he says 'my head,' he kept rubbing and said 'that hurts,'" explained the mother. "He said 'Mommy, Mr. Baier, he picked me up from the floor and he,' showed me with his hands, 'pulled my head and then he threw me.'"
According to police, that instance was caught on surveillance video. Investigators say more parents came forward after seeing the initial report on television, including the parent from this latest allegation.
"A number of victims came forward after the story ran," explained Davie Police Capt Dale Engle. "and this is another one of those cases where Mr. Baier is involved in abusing children at the school."
Police say Baier could face more charges. The judge set his bond in this case at $2500.
