Another Arrested In Death Of Man Found In Burning Car

NORTH LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- Deputies have arrested a second person in connection to the death of a man found in a burning car at a North Lauderdale park.
The Broward Sheriff's Office says Johntavis McCoe murdered Darren Butler last week. Butler's body was found inside a burning car in North Lauderdale last Wednesday morning. However, BSO has not released any details about a possible motive for the killing.
McCoe is the second person arrested for the crime. Last week, BSO arrested Rougeina Deriveire for the murder. The arrest report in her case is sealed in the court records.
Butler's girlfriend, Latearryia Anthony told CBS4 News that she cannot imagine why anyone would hurt Butler and she is devastated for the couple's baby daughter, Amelia.
"We lost a part of us when they took him," she said.
Anthony is consumed with questions.
"Why?" she said. "Why would you want to do this? Why would you take him like this? Why would you even want to hurt him? He had nothing but love, respect."
Anthony said she has no idea who these people are and whether Butler knew them. She said she wants everyone who played a role in Butler's death to be held accountable.
"Praying that everybody that was involved, everybody that had a problem with him or anybody that was involved in this just to come forward and bring justice to her, to his family, to us," she said. "He didn't deserve that."
We're also learning new details about the case. CBS4 news obtained a search warrant on the car that was recovered in North Lauderdale. It shows that inside the vehicle detectives found a 1-gallon gas can, a projectile and white trash bags that were used to bind the victim.
Latearryia Anthony is heartbroken and she's trying to stay focused on raising her children and honoring the memory of the man who she says worked hard to provide for her and their daughter.
"He loved her," she said. "From the moment the pregnancy test said positive, he loved her. He was here. Every step of the way and it just hurts me that she will never get to know him."
The Medical Examiner told CBS 4 News they are still awaiting a precise cause of death. Meanwhile, BSO is asking for anyone with information on Butler's murder to contact Broward Crimestoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
