Ann Romney Thanks Volunteers In Fort Lauderdale
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) — As GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney campaigned in Daytona Beach today, his wife Ann made her rounds across the state as well.
After participating in a breast cancer walk in Orlando, Mrs. Romney met with volunteers in Broward County to thank them for their time and their work for her husband's campaign.
Greeted with a round of applause, a hug and a lot of smiling faces, Ann Romney was in Fort Lauderdale Saturday afternoon meeting with Romney-Ryan campaign volunteers at the Las Vegas Cuban Cuisine restaurant.
Honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Mrs. Romney spoke with several volunteers briefly about her own battle with breast cancer and her respect and well wishes for those dealing with cancer.
"It was an absolute honor to meet Mrs. Romney," said volunteer Marcus Mickey. "My grandma had breast cancer and she's such an inspiration," the 14-year-old added.
Mickey is obviously not old enough to vote but certainly is old enough to donate his time to the campaign.
"I came here and devoted my Saturdays and it turns out I volunteered on the right days. I got to meet Mrs. Romney, and it's amazing," Mickey said.
Another volunteer, Patti Burns, said meeting Mrs. Romney face-to-face only made her want to work harder.
"It makes you wanna go back and make one thousand more phone calls every minute. It really pumps you up for someone to take their time to let you know how much they appreciate what we're doing," said Burns.
And Romney did let them know.
"I do know you're not doing this for my husband, you're doing this for the country," Romney said.
"We are here because we believe in America...we believe we can do better...that these four years have been very hard on Americans and we need the right man for the right time," Romney added.
After meeting with volunteer in Fort Lauderdale, Mrs. Romney headed north to a rally in Boca Raton, where she will stay through the final president debate, at Lynn University on Monday.
