Angry Mother Drops Kids Off At Ft. Lauderdale Fire Station
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) - Detectives are calling it an unusual case and can not recall an incident like this in recent history.
Police say an upset mother who had just had a fight with her husband dropped off two of her children at Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue headquarters at around 4 p.m.
She apparently told her husband what she had done because he responded to station number two at 528 N.W. 2nd Street and found his two-year-old son and one-year-old daughter.
The Department of Children and Families was called but the father was allowed to leave the station with both of his children. Neither he nor his wife are being identified.
Detective Travis Mandell told CBS4's Peter D'Oench that possible charges are pending.
"The mother and father had an argument," said Mandell. "And she decided to drop off the children. Our number one main concern is the welfare of the children. We want to make sure that they're alright. Once we can be certain that they are alright, we can move forward with our investigation."
The father declined to talk as he placed his two children inside a car that was driven away from the Fire rescue headquarters.
Florida's Safe haven law only allows for newborn infants to be legally dropped off at fire stations.
