American Air Crew Members Taken To Hospital After Flight Lands In Ft. Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - A hazardous materials team was called to Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport after five people aboard an American Airlines flight became ill.
Flight 1897 took off from Philadelphia and landed in Fort Lauderdale at 11 a.m. Shortly before landing at Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, crew members complained of an odor onboard.
A source told CBS4's Peter D'Oench that crew members felt dizzy and light headed.
The plane landed safely and paramedics spoke with the crew.
"Two pilots and three flight attendants asked to be taken to the hospital as a precaution," according to a statement from the airline. "The aircraft is being evaluated by our maintenance team."
It's not known what will happen to the plane. American Airlines spokesman Alexis Coello said the cause of the problem is not known and said the no flights were cancelled.
She said the two pilots were from Miami and were back home on Thursday afternoon. As of late in the afternoon, the three flight attendants were still being examined at Broward Health Medical Center.
D'Oench caught up with two employees including at least one flight attendant who may have been on Flight 1897.
"How are you doing? How are you," he asked. "How are you feeling, how are you feeling? Can you say anything?"
The female flight attendant said nothing and the male employee said, "We have no comment. No comment. We have no comment. No comment."
The airline said the employees were urged not to say anything.
None of the 137 passengers on the Airbus 320 reported feeling ill or asked to be evaluated.
