Amateur Filmmakers Arrested After Prank Bombs
BOCA RATON (CBS4) - The tables are turned on two South Florida filmmakers after their video prank quickly turns into a beat down by a Boca Raton man Friday.
The filmmakers, best known for their Miami zombie attacks that went viral on YouTube in the wake of the causeway cannibal attack weeks ago, have been arrested for their latest prank.
Jonathan Vanegas and Vitaly Zdorovetskiy have gone from being on the attack to being attacked. That's after police say they played a prank on a Boca Raton man, where Zdorovetskiy ran up to the man pretending to have a bag with an explosive inside.
"I just thought 'man, this thing is about to blow up'," said Andre Brown
But Brown was able to keep his cool, until he was told there wasn't really a bomb in the bag and that the entire thing was a prank that had been captured on camera.
"I was very angry, very upset," said Brown. "I couldn't believe somebody was going to try something like that, especially with a bomb!"
Zdorovetskiy can be heard apologizing for the prank after Brown kicked and punched him several times, but to no avail.
"The way he was handling it was almost like he wanted me to think it was okay. They're all like it's okay, it's a joke, but this was no joke. I mean jokes are things you play with your family and it's minor. This was real," said Brown.
Brown called police, filed a report, and had the filmmakers arrested and charged for a felony bomb hoax.
Zdorovetskiy is being held in the Palm Beach County Jail without bond. Vanegas has since been released, but was unavailable for comment.
Brown says the pair never showed any true remorse, and he thinks their arrest will teach them a lesson. In hindsight he believes it was probably a good thing they picked on him instead of someone else.
"To be honest, I'm glad it was me that came out because in this building we have at least four to five people with heart problems. We have two that have seizures all the time and it could've been any one of them and then it really would've turned out to be something bad," said Brown.
