Alleged Burglar Frozen In His Tracks
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – What was he thinking? A burglary suspect is found hiding in a restaurant freezer.
Miami Police told CBS4's Marybel Rodriguez that the man was in the freezer of a Checkers restaurant in the 400 Block of Lejeune Road hiding and waiting for the employees to arrive.
"This is a bizarre case," said Miami Police spokesman Freddie Cruz.
Police said it all started around 7am Monday morning as Checkers employees were doing their daily routine. They reportedly heard some sort of commotion coming from inside the freezer and went to the icebox to investigate.
"They see a gentleman come out if the freezer area staggering out and making some demands such as give me everything. All the employees run out of the store and call 911," said Cruz.
The intruder reportedly stayed inside while the employees were calling for help. Minutes later police arrived.
Cruz continued, "At that moment, the man walked out and he was taken into custody without incident."
Police are not certain how long the man had been in the freezer.
Rescue crews were also called to check on the alleged burglar. He walked out of the rescue truck and into police custody who then checked him into jail.
