Allegations Of "Unfit" Crew Member Causes AA Flight Delay To Miami
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – An American Airlines flight from Brazil to Miami was forced to make an extra stop across the Caribbean after a crew member was deemed 'unfit for duty'.
Flight 930 from San Paulo to Miami was delayed Sunday after an allegation rose about a crew member.
"We investigated the allegation and the flight was delayed departing GRU (San Paulo). Because of the delay, the crew could not continue to MIA due to crew rest requirements. To minimize the impact on our customers, we decided to depart GRU and land in San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU), where we had a crew available to continue to MIA," according to a statement by the airline.
After re-fueling and picking up the new crew, the flight took off for South Florida. It land in Miami around 2 p.m.
"We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and the delayed arrival into Miami," said the airline.
Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Justice signed off on a merger between American Airlines and US Airways.
The $11 billion merger will create the largest airline in the world. American has a hub at Miami International Airport which handles approximately 300 flights a day.
