Adopt-A-Family Program Making Thanksgiving Happy
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (CBS4) - If you look at a picture of the Jean-Louis family, you'll see all smiles from the happy family. But the reality is as Thanksgiving approaches, they needed help.
The family is battling several serious health conditions and needed some aid to make Thanksgiving even more special.
"My husband has MS and my oldest daughter has sickle cell and she is in the hospital quite often," said mother of three, Cassandra Jean-Louis.
That's where Neighbors 4 Neighbors and Walmart came together to help. The Walmart in Miami Gardens adopted five families through the "Adopt-A-Family" program. The company gives the family a turkey and a $50 gift card to make it a truly Happy Thanksgiving.
"It is amazing it is one of the great joys we get when we are able to do something like this, it just feels good," said Walmart General Manager Chris Provost-Heron.
For other adopter families, the program gives them a fulfillment that is tough to top as the holiday season begins.
"I am having everything that I thought I would have on a regular Thanksgiving, which would not be regular this year, if it would not be for Neighbors for Neighbors, Walmart, and Adopt-A-Family," said Sharon Mack, whose family was adopted.
"It just means a time of family and love and just being together," said Jean-Louis.
Walmart decided to spread the blessings even more and is going to have the same families back at the store.
