Activists Protest The "Deadbeat Dozen" On Tax Day
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) - Feeling that everybody should pay their fare share on Tax Day, supporters of a number of activist groups including moveon.org, Fight Back Florida and US Uncut plan to protest what they're calling the "Deadbeat Dozen."
At 5 p.m. in Ft. Lauderdale a rally and symbolic protest will be held in front of the Bank of America on SE 17th Street.
"During these difficult economic times, when all Americans are being asked to sacrifice, it is simply wrong that Bank of America is avoiding their American duty to pay their taxes," said Connie Lynd in a written statement.
"We pay our taxes", said Niomi Devereux, one of the organizers of the rally.
Bank of America responded – so do they.
"Our tax payments extend far beyond federal income taxes to include state and local taxes, payroll taxes, property taxes, sales and use taxes, and other taxes. In fact, over the last 10 years, Bank of America and its legacy companies have paid more than $60 billion in taxes. These taxes, which are included in our operating expenses, are a significant source of funding for U.S. federal, state and local and foreign governments."

Other corporate tax dodgers in the group, according to the moveon.org, include GE, Google, BP, Amazon FedEx and Amazon. More than 300 rallies will be held nationwide to protest big corporations who reportedly pay little to no federal taxes.
